Welcome to “The Conscious Parent” book study. My name is _____ and I will be the leader for the meeting today.

Would all who care to, please join me in praying the Serenity Prayer:

“God, Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.”

At this time, we will introduce ourselves by first name or chosen nickname only. This is not to embarrass you but to get to know you.  If you are comfortable doing so please share from what corner of the globe you are calling it from. In addition, please state whether you are available to read today.

Introductions

Welcome to anyone choosing to remain silent; silent, witnessing participation is equally as welcome as active participation.

The reading of the 12 Steps of VA & The 15 Promises

The Conscious Parenting Method, developed by Dr. Shefali Tsabary, which is defined in the note to parents:

“To parent perfectly is a mirage.  There is no ideal parent and no ideal child.

“The Conscious Parent underscores the challenges that are a natural part of raising a child, fully understanding that, as parents, each of us tries the best we can with the resources we have.

“The objective of this book is to illumine how we might identify and capitalize on the emotional and spiritual lessons inherent in the parenting process, so that we can use them for our own development, which in turn will result in the ability to parent more effectively.  As part of this approach, we are asked to open ourselves up to the possibility that our imperfections may actually be our most valuable tools for change.

“There may be time during the reading of these pages when the material stirs uncomfortable feelings. I invite anyone who experiences such feeling simply to take note of this energy.  Pause in your reading and sit with the feelings that come up.  As you do so, you may find you spontaneously metabolize these feelings.  Suddenly what’s being said starts to make greater sense.

“Conscious parenting focuses on parental mindfulness, awareness, and emotional regulation. Conscious parents monitor their own thoughts, feelings, and behaviors to make thoughtful and emotionally-centered decisions when responding to their children. This parenting philosophy aims to prevent negative parenting patterns by encouraging curiosity and mutual collaboration.”

This Friday Book Study is structured in the following way:

  • Participants take turns reading small, multi-paragraph sections of the book
  • Participants share at each pause between readings for approx. 4 minutes each (self-timed)
  • Participants keep their sharing in the format of personal understanding or experience
